Promoting peace and unity in the body of Christ does not mean tolerating sin or compromising doctrine. Sin tolerated always hinders spiritual growth and nullifies the transforming power of the Word of God. Rather than living to please self as is the pattern in sin, the ultimate goal of the believer is to please God and for Him to be glorified.
The Scriptures give encouragement and perseverance for believers to continue to pursue holy, God-pleasing lives and a unity among one another. Without the Word of God there is a lack of strength, focus, and instruction for maintaining biblical unity.
The sharpness and clarity of the hope God gives that is needed to endure trials and suffering, is only found in His Word. His Word as ministered by the indwelling Spirit gives believers the power and guidance needed for life and all its circumstances.
The goal of living with hope and persevering is to glorify God because He is what unites all believers who share a common salvation by faith in Jesus Christ.
