What are the qualifications to be a disciple of Christ? There seems to be quite a difference of opinion in this matter. The prevailing teaching, and the most common understanding is that there are basically no qualifications. You simply "let Jesus come into your heart," or "make Jesus your personal Savior" and you are good to go to heaven. However, even a casual glance at the Scripture shows us that Jesus taught that it would cost you everything. If we love our mother or father, or our son or daughter more than Him, we are not worthy of him. He also said this in Luke 14:33: "So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple." Beware of the false teaching that a person can be saved, but not a disiciple. A disciple is "a learner and a follower." We cannot be saved while in ignorance and rebellion to Jesus Christ.
