1. The mystery can't be the promises of God that are clearly seen from Old Testament Scriptures.
Paul quotes two of these promises in v. 26b-27. He quotes from Isaiah 59:20-21. He then quotes from Isaiah 27:9 – with a probable allusion to the New Covenant passage of Jeremiah 31:31.
2. It also is not a mystery that blindness would come to a great part of Israel. That too was revealed in the OT as we already saw Rom. 11:8 (from Isa. 29:10 and Deuteronomy 29:4)v. 9-10 11:9-10 (from Psalm 69:22-23)
B. What the Mystery is: It is the revealing to the Gentiles – Jesus Christ as their savior. Romans 16:25-26 Colossians 1:24-2:3 Ephesians 3:1-7
II. 'All Israel' will be Saved v. 26a
A. Calvin's View – “all Israel” means the entire people of God.
B. All Israel means every Jewish person.
C. The Remnant View
1. houtos (v. 26a) does not mean “then” or “after that” but “so” or “in this way”.
2. There seems to be a “present tense” context to the entire passage.
3. The context has favored “the remnant” idea all the way through.
4, All the elect and only the elect will partake of the promises.
5. Paul is not deviating from his central theme of justification by faith.

Great Sermon! This mini series has been such a blessing to me. I was raised in dispensationalism, so trying to get the truth of God's word straight in my head hasn't been easy. Pastor Marquedant is a good teacher. I feel like I have the truth settled securely in my mind now. It seems so obvious to me now, oh how I hate fales or mistaken teaching of God's word. I'm so grateful for these lessons from Romans and I'm looking forward to the rest.
