The church in Ephesus was a remarkable church in many ways. They tested false prophets and rejected them. They practiced church discipline and didn't tolerate evil men. They had good deeds, hard work (toil), perserverance and endurance. They hated the deeds of the Nicolaitans, etc. Today, we could consider this church, not just a good church, but a great church. And yet Christ threatened to remove this church's lampstand altogether. Why? Because they left their first love. They were doing a lot of things in the ministry, but they did not have their love for Christ, for God, for God's word, for prayer and for other people that they used to have. This was no small omissions. This was huge. For this reason alone, Christ threatened to remove this church's light and ministry altogether and leave the town of Ephesus in complete darkness. Are you listening? He who has ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
