Theme: The Sovereign God used evil to accomplish His Divine plan. In vv. 1-2, we see the sinister plot as the Chief Priests and Scribes seek how to put Jesus to death. In v. 3 Satan's influence on Judas is described, and in vv. 4-6, the secret plan is made. In application, we need to consider the extent of God's Sovereignty over all, including the timing of this event, as well as the fulfillment of prophecy. Secondly, we need to recognize Christ as our passover. Thirdly, we need to remember that Satan is a real foe and beware of the temptation to betray. Throughout Luke's account, we see the invisible hand of the Almighty setting the stage for Jesus to die for our sins, be buried, and be raised for our justification, for those who put their trust in Him!
