The saints in glory sing in a way we cannot sing here. They have come to the end of their warfare whereas we are still in it. Nevertheless there is always cause for thanksgiving, and we may experience times when testing is over and we can rejoice in God's goodness. That was David's experience, and the reason he penned this song. It has a surprising element - he mentions his 'righteousness' - and that makes us wonder whether God sets conditions for helping people. We must remember the gospel offer of salvation has NO conditions whatever; but after we come to faith we must keep covenant with God, and as we do that we will experience his faithfulness to us in ways we would not otherwise. David's song refers to many situations in which he had God's help; likewise we find that God's salvation is comprehensive, and we will say at last, 'He has done all things well'.
