When we find prophecy in the Old Testament it is our wisdom to enquire whether it has yet been fulfilled. The prophets wrote for our benefit as well as for their contemporaries. When King David uttered his last prophecy it was a about a righteous ruler. He knew that could not describe any of the rulers he knew, not even himself. He also knew that God had promised him a descendant who would sit on his throne forever, and he wrote about him in Psalm 16. The Bible has many references to God's righteous rule, not least when we come to descriptions of the risen Christ. Think about the ways in which Jesus rules - by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, and by Providence; how we see that in our experience; and what that leads us to expect of the future.
