In the verses that I have just read to you, the sign of the rainbow was given to Noah, and to all mankind who would come after him, to show forth God's sovereign mercy to all the earth. God will show mercy to all mankind, throughout all generations in this particular way. He will never again cut off all flesh by the waters of a Flood. The rainbow is the indication to all mankind, in all generations, that God will not judge all flesh in this way ever again. And so, what I want to do in this message, is to show you how this sign of the rainbow also relates to God's showing mercy in the free offer of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Since the sign of the rainbow is a sign of God's mercy it ought to cause us to think of how compassionate and loving God the Father is, in relation to the gospel.
