Christians in general and preachers in particular are those who bring news to people. The world is not in possession of these things. Newspapers and magazines do not carry this news of the gospel neither do television programmes. The gospel is something that is revealed from God which comes not by study but through the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, as Paul proclaims to the congregation in Pisidian Antioch, these are tidings that produce happiness. Such a message presupposes that we might be miserable to begin with which is an apt description of the plight of the sinner. They have no certainty and no world-view. Whereas the saints have pardon from God and hope for the future. Their prayers are answered and they have communion with the risen Christ.
As Christians we need to deepen our appreciation of these glad tidings. We must dig deeply into the treasure and remember free grace. We need to communicate to others and to remember we are a blessing, not a curse, to the world in which we minister.
