Seven historical churches existing at the time of the revelation given to the apostle John, exiled on the island of Patmos, received messages from Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church. These seven churches also were representative of churches that are in existence through the Church Age down through our day. The message to the church at Laodicea received the strongest rebuke, harshest condemnation, and no commendation. A church in its day that was rejected by Jesus Christ. Rejected as it was and called by Him to repent for being a church in outward appearance only as it was holding to a form of being a religious activity center by ritual and traditions in practice, but having no genuine passion for God. A church in a spiritually desperate condition in danger of that condition becoming fatal both individually and corporately. A church composed of people satisfying their innate drive to be religious by going through the motions yet devoid of spiritual life. Religious activity without spirit and truth has never been acceptable to God nor will be. A serious warning to be considered today by individuals and congregations as the condemnation and correction stand firm as the message from the Lord of the true Church.
