When a person is born-again by having placed their faith in Christ alone for the forgiveness of their sin, they are identified by the Holy Spirit as a member of the Church. The Spirit then gives gifts to each believer to enable and equip them to serve in the local church in harmony with the other members and their giftedness.
Those who will give forth the Word of God include those gifted as evangelists and pastor-teachers. All believers have a responsibility to be sharing the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The evangelists will lead the way in carrying that message and in being able to effectively convey the truth without alterations.
The pastor-teacher will not only be able to explain the Word with clarity and understanding, but also will serve as a 'shepherd.'
The pastor who leads as a shepherd will provide leadership and oversight by both instruction and example. He is responsible to protect His 'flock' by giving warnings and protection from the dangers of false teaching and to provide for their spiritual nourishment by feeding them with the Word of God.
In general, the overall care and well-being of the members is the responsibility of the pastor-teacher. As the members are cared for they are being equipped to carry on the ministry. There is no retirement from the ministry. Adjustments may need to be made in how service carried out - but the service of saints in the church isn't done until the Lord takes us to be with Himself.

Wonderful Sermon!! This sermon addressed the validity and responsibilities regarding the office of an evangelist accurately. It's a thorough and concise teaching which also edifies pastors and teachers to diligently labor for the LORD. By the way, I wholeheartedly agree with the pastor that there should be NO retirement or days off from serving the LORD :)
