Unless our righteousness exceeds that of the Scribes and the Pharisees, we will never enter the kingdom of heaven. At a minimum, this statement of Jesus' should make us sit up and pay attention. How can anyone fulfil such a requirement? What hope do we have? And there's no "cheating" allowed by relaxing any of God's commandments. Our only hope is Jesus Christ, who has come to fulfill the Law and the Prophets– every last detail of them. What a gracious gift this is– that in Him, we should become the very righteousness of God! Praise the Lord!
