This week we continue our series on Jesus' sermon on the mount with the third and fourth examples of righteous living, that of divorce and oaths. We are not ignorant of Australia's general views on marriage and oaths. Much like the culture Jesus was speaking into, our understanding of these two examples has been altered from God's original intent. Even believers like us understand these topics through the coloured lenses of our own experiences. But, Jesus' words were given to correct the disciples understanding, not so they could live a perfect life, but so that he might shepherd us into a life rich with the beatitude blessings. To be poor of spirit, mourn, have mercy, all in the righteous gentle arms of Jesus. I realise this is not an easy topic for many. Please pray with me that we would come to church Sunday morning and attempt to remove the lenses of our own experiences, listen, and follow our Lord as he shepherds us into his own heart.
