She is to be remembered as a woman who served God in her local church as a servant of the Lord. The ministry of a couple who Paul met in Corinth and joined him in his ministry in Corinth as well as in Ephesus after moving from there. They also shared a common skill and means of support by doing leatherwork. Following this message there is a discussion of a question regarding the four resurrections and judgments that follow as revealed in the Scriptures.

Excellent Sermon! This was an excellent sermon by Gil Rugh. He spent over half an hour looking into the possible complications that one verse in the Bible may cause, for example, about the official role of Phoebe in Romans 16:1. ¶ Romans 16:1 I commend to you Phoebe, our sister, who is a servant [!] of the assembly that is at Cenchreae, ---WEB ¶ It it can be seen by the marginal notes for various versions of the Bible that are based on the ASV, such as the NASB, that want to interpret "servant" as "Deaconess." [!] Dr. Rugh did an excellent job of pointing out Phoebe, who no doubt did many excellent works for her fellow Christians, still did not have an official role as a deacon. People who want to give her that role are ignoring the complementarianism nature that God has assigned to men and women. ¶It is interesting to see which Bible versions who had translators that wanted to do this, and those Bible versions that didn't do this. This is a highly informative sermon!
