Jesus taught us that whenever someone sins and causes offense, we should approach that person and rebuke them. If they listen, we have won a brother. If not, we take one or two others, so that the fact may be established by witnesses. If he listens to them, we have won a brother. If not, we bring it before the church. If he listens to the church, we have won a brother. If not, we are to treat that person as a tax collector or Gentile. That means, we are to disassociate from them, treating them the way any Jew would regard a Gentile. Unfortunately, this is rarely done, and our churches are suffering the consequences of thier disobedience to Christ.
