Paul very strongly warns not to reject his words and this warning continues to hold true for all time since it is actually God who is making the appeal through His servants. When God's truth is proclaimed, God Himself is present and in a very real sense, is delivering the message. When someone rejects, is indifferent to, or is bored with God's truth, what this reveals is the perversion of their heart and not the inadequacy of the message. The modern church, however, too often responds to people's boredom and indifference to the truth by trying to entertain and excite, but this can only be done by diluting the truth. The message of reconciliation is inseparable from the awareness of sin. To be aware of one's sin, however, is not the solution to the problem. Awareness of our sin should drive us to Christ. Paul then explains the legal or judicial way that God deals with the problem of sin--an absolute necessity if God's justice is to be maintained. This is through the glorious doctrine of imputation.
