Paul says that we are saved for a purpose, that is, to serve the King and glorify His name. This is why believers have received God's grace, so that they might glorify His name through serving His Kingdom. Christ's disciples are meant to do many good works and bear much fruit. The Christian message is not just about being saved, but also about true discipleship so that the saved person becomes an effective producer of good fruit in the Kingdom. Paul warns about receiving the grace of God in vain and quotes from Isaiah to explain what he means. Paul wanted the Corinthians to understand Isaiah's original prophetic message, because he wanted them to live in the reality of what Isaiah said, namely, showing what the Messiah had accomplished for them.
