God has always expected His people to live in such a way that the next generation takes notice. Deuteronomy 4:6 reminds us that our wisdom—our obedience—should be so distinct that the world around us stops and considers its source. And not just the world, but our own children.
Moses made it clear: "When your sons ask you in time to come…" (Deut. 6:20). Not if they ask, but when. They will look at our lives and want to know: Why do you live like this? What do these commands mean to you?
What answer will they hear?
Will they hear about a God who delivered us—who broke our chains, redirected our paths, and gave us a reason to trust and obey? Or will they hear silence, because we've neglected to walk in His ways? Worse, will they see a path they should avoid but are drawn to follow?
The truth is, every life tells a story. Every choice is a signpost. Our ways either declare, "There is a Deliverer!" or they leave the next generation searching for one.
But here's the hope: No matter where our journey has taken us, grace can rewrite the story. Even if our past led us far from God, His grace can meet us where we are and change the testimony we pass down. Grace transforms not just our answers but the questions our children will ask.
Has His grace done that for you? It can. And when they ask, may our lives give them every reason to believe in the One who sets captives free.
How Long Will You Wait?
"How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers has given you?" — Joshua 18:3
