The universal kingdom over which God rules has several distinctions from the future, earthly kingdom over which Jesus Christ will rule. These include:
1. The universal kingdom has always existed, without interruption, since the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth and will through eternity.
2. The universal kingdom includes all that exists in time and space – so all sin is against God's rule and authority. Nothing in heaven, earth, or under the earth is outside His rule so there is no place to go to, to hide from God.
3. Divine control is generally providential being exercised through such secondary means as nature. It is often not seen or recognized as such by people in the world.
4. Divine control may be exercised through supernatural means during which time God does directly intervene supernaturally.
5. The rule of God is always effective as His will is done, even without man's cooperation or submission. Man's rules and laws set up do not change, hinder, or override God's control – nor do they minimize the punishment for violating God's standards.
