Man's steps are ordained by the Lord, and He delights in his way. What a comforting truth to know that all our lives long, God is leading us. We may not have any idea where we are going (like Abraham), but by faith, not sight, we put one foot forward after the other, and God guides each step.
This passage also shows us that, even though the righteous falls, he will not hurl headlong because God holds his hand. Like a one-year old child that stumbles as he walks, but doesn't fall because his father holds his hand tight, so our Father holds our hand to keep us from falling to destruction.
The passage also shows that God loves justice. Not what is called social justice today. True justice -- wherein the righteous are rewarded for their righteousness and the wicked are punished for their sins. The crucifixion of Christ was simultatneously the greatest act of injustice and the greatest act of justice. It was injustice because a perfectly righteous man was horrificly punished. It was justice because our sins were imputed to Christ and He was punished fully for that sin.
