Theme: With the coming of judgment, comes the compassionate warning of the Lord Jesus Christ to obey and flee to safety. In v. 20, the sign of destruction is given. In application, we need to recognize the greater judgment. In vv. 21-22, Jesus gives instructions for escape. In application, we should not reject God's warnings. In v. 23, we see the compassion of Jesus and the need to embrace the sympathetic Savior. In v. 24, the occupation of and an opportunity for the Gentiles is given. In application, we need to be humble before God. In this passage, Jesus uses a historical event of judgment and gives instructions on how to avoid that judgment. Those who obeyed survived, but those who didn't suffered a miserable death. But the message isn't just about that. Our Lord has given us a specific number of days on earth during which we can obey Christ's warning to turn from our sin, believe in Him, and be clothed in His perfect righteousness. If you have not yet heeded Christ's warning, look to Him today for salvation!
