This whole chapter of the gospel of Mark, and the parallel passages in Matthew 24 and Luke 21, are just filled with the truths of what would happen to the Jews as a result of their unbelief in regard to the truth that Jesus was, and is, their Messiah. In verse 28 the Lord Jesus parabolicly refers to the nation of the Jews as a fig tree. In Luke 21: 29 it says: “Then Jesus spoke to them a parable: Look at the fig tree, and all the trees.” “When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near.” “So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.” “Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place.” This afternoon I would like to show you 1st of all – That the words, “this generation” have reference to the Jews in relation to the parable of the fig tree. 2nd – I would like to show you that the words “this generation” relate to the great advances of the kingdom of God
