While responsible to pay off debts incurred, the believer is never to consider the responsibility to love, particularly other believers who are also brothers and sisters in God's family. This love is like that shown by Christ in giving His life as the sacrifice for sin. This love is generated by the Holy Spirit rather than by feelings and emotions. This love puts the needs and best interests of the other person before self-interests. This love has no room for pride and selfishness which will corrupt the love generated by the Spirit. A lack of love has at its root a lack of love for God and is a lack of submission to the Spirit - so the problem isn't the other person who is not being loved as should be by God's standards.
