In this session, we look at the importance of doctrinal teaching in the church. The teaching of prophecy is a doctrine. Over the last 100 years or so that has been a failure, and as I see it, has led many into error. We will look at the history of how prophecy has been interpreted. The premillennial view was first, which gave way to amillennialism after the time the Roman ruler Constantine professed to become a Christian. In the 1800's a revival of the study of prophecy took place and had a huge impact on Christians all over the world. It slowly gave way to amillennialism once more and although the impact of the revival on the study of prophecy is still felt in the church, once more other teachings are taking the upper hand. Last, in this first section we will look briefly at how the book of Revelation has been approached over the years.
With that, we will have covered many of the preliminary matters a new believer needs to be familiar with to study prophecy. This will create a bigger awareness of what has happened in the past and is happening today. We will see first what the closing days of the Church age will be like. We will look at what the spiritual climate will be like, what the major political efforts will be, and what will be in the news in these closing days before the tribulation begins.
