What we believe directly impacts how we live. The Church has a moral foundation built on the truth of God's Word. The doctrinal error being promoted in the church at Corinth was creating the danger of that foundation being destroyed. The 'bad company' were those who did not personally know God and were teaching false doctrine that would corrupt the morality of the Church.
Paul's was especially concerned that a misunderstanding of the bodily resurrection of believers would be a corrupting influence on all aspects of life.
Concerning the issue of baptism for the dead, Paul makes the point that understanding the issue comes in the context and harmony of other such teachings about baptism since there are no contradictions in the Scriptures. Since the rest of scripture teaches that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, then baptism can not in any form, or at any time, be a means of salvation.
It is a sin for the Church to tolerate false teaching. This requires those in the Body of Christ to know the Word, live the Word and be clear thinking, i.e. sober-minded with it.
