I want to highlight a few things about Eli's sons... I encourage you to reread 1 Samuel 2:12-36 and pay attention to the way the Bible describes their nature, actions and how their fate was sealed. Also look for how their corrupt acts created such unnecessary tension in the lives of God's people. Keep in mind... the way they handled the sacrifices had become a custom that didn't have its origin in God's plan or purpose. They had gone rouge, doing things how they wanted, independent of God, and the results would be devastating for them and to those they served. Corrupt servants do corrupt things...
Instead of letting the people worship and joyfully obey the Lord... they became a distraction and burden to the people. The result... the people hated the process of bringing an offering before God and celebrating His goodness and grace over them. (Keep in mind... no one is worth getting out of the will of God for. Don't let corrupt servants corrupt your heart or motives of faith obedience. It appears that the people of God let these two boys compromise their joy in the offering. Don't let this be you.)
Corrupt servants corrupt everything they touch... they also feel the liberty to make lightly of God's ways, despise God's commands, disregard God's purpose, devalue God's offering, belittle God's grace, mistreat and manipulate God's people and distort God's cause.
