The church at Ephesus was highly commended and yet the Lord of the Church had a serious and solemn rebuke for them. They had ‘left their first love.’ What was meant by ‘first love’ was more than their having cooled in their feelings for Christ. The correction to remember, repent, and do implies actions which that kind of love does had diminished. This love they had let go of is rooted in the will and evidenced by the actions that follow. A change in actions results from a change in thinking which must be followed by repentance. Any church that has been in existence for several years and generations of believers is vulnerable and especially hear and heed this warning. This love in action will be evidenced as it is exercised in the relationships believers in the church have with one another. Taking a closer look with humility and sincerity will allow the Lord to make the corrections as needed beginning in the heart of each individual in the corporate body of the local church.
