In light of the fact that we are receiving new members into the life of our church today, and having our annual congregational meeting, I thought it would be appropriate to bring a sermon related to Christian ministry. In my own pastoral ministry I have always been guided by these words of the apostle Paul. And these words have been the emphasis of Cornerstone's ministry as well. I will develop the words of Paul as he opens up his heart about the nature of Christian ministry, beginning with his own identity as a minister, a steward, and a preacher. He then reveals the method of his ministry, which is the proclamation of the word of God. This is the only tool at Paul's disposal; he is a “herald” of a message that was given to him from heaven. Finally, he reveals the goal of his ministry, which results from his preaching of God's word. The goal is to bring Christians to spiritual maturity, and then to “present” them to God. Now, Paul's understanding of Christian ministry is also my understanding of the sacred task. So, this not only defines ministry, it also identifies Christ's purpose for His church. May God bless His word to our hearts!
