Jesus experienced overwhelming and unsupportable mental anguish in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross. He asked God if the cup might pass from Him. He cried out on the cross, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?" And He was not play acting. Jesus experienced what we call depression. He sank under the weight of the burdens that were upon Him. Yet, He fought, and prayed and submitted Himself to the will of God. That is what we must do as well in the face of the sufferings God has appointed for us. Prayer, submission, resignation. Christ is able to sympathize with us because He experienced the same, only worse. Christ will give us grace to help in time of our need.
