We are in a study of the hypostatic union, or you may know it as the Mystery of Godliness. This lecture starts with a brief discussion of two gardens; Gethsemane and Golgotha. Turn to John 18:1-2 and John 19:41 and listen to what this pastor has to say about these two gardens. This teaching may surprise you, but if you believe in the Deity of Christ, you’ll be happier with this than what tradition teaches... or not. If you listen to this preacher long enough, you might actually come to like finding out that what you’ve been taught was wrong (at least that’s my experience).
Actually, David bought these two gardens, and the temple site, in response to Saul killing Gibeonites. And you never, ever, kill Gibeonites. But more on that later.
In John 19:41 the “they” are Nicodemus and Joseph. They figured out the spot that God in the flesh would be crucified. These two are Bible scholars because, ahead of time, these guys bought the plot and honed out the tomb and the stone that rolled into place. They did it all without a Hitachi hammer drill. And then they bought and carried a hundred pounds of burial spice along with the linen’s.
And this leads pastor to the instructions that Jesus gave to find the large upper room that’s furnished and prepared for the Passover meal. How does Christ know? Well... He’s God. And this room is the place where Jesus is to have a confrontation with Judas (who has Satan inside of him). You’ll enjoy this part.
There are many wonderful rabbit trails in this lecture. But he actually brings them all back to the core of the lecture.
Now back to the Gibeonites.
