The parable of the talents teaches us that Christians should be found busy when the Lord returns. The first was about vigilance and the other is about diligence.
The Lord crafted this new parable for a specific purpose. • He used the story line of a merchant going off on a journey to relate to His ascension. • He used the waiting time as the period until the Lord would return. • He used the talents to show the work that He expects each one to be doing in His church. The Lord gave His church and all disciples the command to preach the gospel in all the world. They were given the deposit of the gospel as talents to promote the Kingdom during His absence.
So, this parable reflects the work that we are to be about as born-again Christians. Two got it right, but one was unprofitable.
