The incarnation story teaches one unmistakable lesson. God chooses the foolish things of this world to shame the wise and the the things "that are not" to nullify the things that are. This is one of the main points of Micah 5:2. God chose Bethlehem, too little to be among the clans of Judah, to be the birthplace from which a Ruler would go forth -- Him who was from eternity. God chose a stable, not a palace. God chose Joseph, a poor carpenter, not a prince or high priest. God chose Mary, a humble maidservant, a nobody, to be the mother of Jesus. Time after time, example after example, we see God doing this very thing. Behold your God. This is the way God is. This is who He is. Why? Because God hates pride and delights in humility. Consequently, He exalts what man despises and throws mud on everything man prizes that no one may boast before Him.
