The greatness and superiority of Jesus Christ is demonstrated in the letter to the Hebrews, especially in regard to the Old Covenant and the Levitical priesthood.
The letter starts by establishing that God has spoken to us through His Son. The rest of the letter is the revelation from God with the emphasis on the manner of the revelation and its superiority. The contrast is made in the opening verses between the previous revelation through the prophets as concerned when it came, through whom, and to whom it was spoken.
Many missed the message of Jesus Christ that was revealed through the prophets so the warning is given not to miss and reject the greater revelation given through Christ.
The uniqueness of Jesus Christ as the Son of God is elaborated by seven factual realities: 1. He has been appointed Heir of all things by God and to rule over all things. 2. Through Him God made everything. 3. Christ displays – reveals – manifests the glory of God. 4. He is the exact representation of the essential being of God. 5. He is upholding everything. 6. Purification for sins is done having been completed at the cross. 7. Having finished His work as believer's High Priest, He sat down.
