It can be hard to swallow... but God's chief goal is NOT our happiness. It's not that He doesn't want us happy... that's not it at all. He has something better, something far better than we seeking everything under the sun to find happiness on our own and without Him.
Think about it? If humanity had the power or ability to fix itself, or reverse the effects of our fall, by seeking those things that make us happy, there would have been absolutely NO need for Jesus. Mankind is broken... and without Jesus man lives and dies broken.
The curse upon the world begin to change everything. Thorns and thistles were brought forth due to the curse. Trouble, pain, sorrow and death became a part of the human existence and men have been attempting to overthrow or diminish the curse from day one. And this was passed down to every generation to follow. We are all products of the fall.
Therefore, everything that can be possibly thought of has been sought to minimize or reverse the effects of this curse. But nothing can turn it back expect Jesus.
