Today Christ is enthroned at the right hand of God in glory, which is different & distinct from the earthly throne promised to David that He has yet to be seated on (Revelation 3:21.)
King Jesus, as a descendent of the line of David, will be the ultimate fulfillment of God's promise to David (2 Samuel 7:11-13, 16.) Progressive revelation does not, and cannot, nullify or alter past revelation from God.
The Jews, along with the Church for the first 300 years after it was established (Acts 2,) believed that there was a coming earthly kingdom over which Christ would rule. It was understood that when it began, it would be sudden and complete.
The yet to be assumed Davidic throne is the one Church-age believers will share with Him (Revelation 2:26.) When Psalm 110:1 is fulfilled Christ will return to earth and take His seat on that throne promised to David and from there rule over the Kingdom of God on the earth.
Scripture reveals some details of the return of Christ to earth to establish that kingdom and the judgment that will occur when He does. This judgment will be to determine who gets to go into His kingdom. We are also told that Satan is confined to the abyss for the 1000 year period before he is sentenced to hell forever. This 1000 year period will be the first phase of the eternal kingdom and will be centered in Jerusalem (Isaiah 2:1-4.)
This period of time will also serve to demonstrate that the root problem of sin is internal, being the condition of the heart, not external being caused by environmental factors.
