We continue from last weeks lecture in Luke 15. I know. This is supposed to be a Genesis lecture. Well... no time to explain now. The lecture is about to start. Your mission, if you chose to accept it, is to press play after you read this.
It's the story of "The Compassionate Father". You know it as "The Prodigal Son", but not anymore. First: step one... if you haven't, you absolutely must listen to the previous sermon. This is a two-part lecture that you won't want to miss.
Alright, for those of you who have complied with step one, I will attempt to give you a short description of this one. You'll want to listen and take notes, because there'll be a test on Friday.
This is a two-hour synopsis of the knowledge Kenneth E. Bailey, who spent 40 years studying this story of the Compassionate Father.
Here, we get to know the context. Who is attending this story as Jesus is telling it? Now, what's their back story? How many of them know this is God standing in front of them? JesusGod is telling them a story. They are all in the story, and they all know it. The Pharisees knew they were in the parable of the talents, Matthew 25:14-30, and they know they are in this one as well. They weren't happy before, and they're not any better now.
Pastor Chronister does in fact help you with the connection to Genesis 14. JesusGod is the possessor of all things.
This is an astonishing, astounding story. Jesus is telling a story that is happening to the people in front of them, while He is telling it. And this story has a profound effect on the people in attendance. If it's not having the same effect on you, then... you don't really know the story. So, press play.
