Last Sunday we were in Genesis 14. It's Melchizedek and Abram, and the real king of Sodom, in a meeting. The king of Sodom wanted to exchange goods for Abram's people. Last week we learned that Melchizedek is God Himself, Christ incarnate, The Possessor of all things. This is Satan bargaining with Abram, and God/Christ swoops in with flesh and blood. But trust me, you'll want to hear how this pastor explains it.
Now, from there we made the connection to Matthew 25:14-30 the parable of the talents, and for review we'll read it again and catch you up. Isaiah 5:20 connects with this passage, just so you know. Lot is a part of this story too. But today we're moving on.
We're adding to all of this. Where will this preacher go now? Wait for it... ...Luke 15! That's right. You know it as "The Prodigal Son". There's a better name, but you'll learn that later. No human being can right Luke 15. Now, there's 3 parables in this chapter but they're really one.
Here Jesus is doing only what can God can do. He's telling a story about each group of people gathered around Him, with a twist... You see, He's also teaching them about Himself, because He is in the stories also. And... You are in the story. I'll give you a hint: you're not the Father. But... if you thought you knew what is really going on in the parable of the lost son, this is where you will find out some things that you never suspected. Because, most likely, if you haven't read Kenneth E. Bailey's book on this, you don't really know the story.
This is an astonishing story. And in my opinion, it's the very best lecture this pastor has ever done. Tune in next week for part 2.
