In the home God established men as the authority with the responsibility of leadership. This situation has potential for great difficulty when the wife becomes a believer who must yet submit to an unbelieving husband. One purpose in the submission is for the behavior of the believing wife to be used by God to bring the husband to salvation after hearing the gospel and witnessing the transformed life of his wife. What the transformed life looks like outwardly by appearance and behavior is an expression of the inward change being generated by the indwelling Spirit. Believing husbands are also given instruction concerning how they are to regard their wives and the seriousness of that consideration is emphasized by the fact of it being sin which hinders the prayer life of all believers.
