Charles Edward "Blackie" Chaves HOMEGOING Service
——MESSAGE——
Mr. Blackie, by all accounts, preached his own funeral… like we all do.
I'm not here to paint a rosy picture of Blackie — I've come to point you to the Righteous One — whose self-portrait is on display every day around us in His creation, upon His people, and more specifically within the beauty and blessing of His message to us in the Word of God.
We, like Mr. Charles, preach our own funeral… You are preaching today. You are adding to the journal of your life with every thought, word, and deed. We all interpret the message you preach differently. Like with Charles, everyone here has a message they received from his life. Each is unique and different. Some are better than others, but he preached his life's message to us all. Now we're here to honor him and the message he left us.
From what I gather, Mr. Blackie was an example on many levels. There was much in His life that can be emulated, but there were some things in his life that should be avoided. But He's not the example nor the standard by which God will judge your life.
Death is the product of living in a fallen and corrupt world where sin is as natural as our next breath. Life is the product of the life-giver. The Bible describes it like this: it calls death "the way of all flesh" or "the path of all men," which leads here. A homegoing service. Every individual here today is on a crash course with this day; we're all going to die. And most people have no idea they will die the day they die.
"We all have given God countless reasons not to love us. None of them has been strong enough to change Him or His love."
