Two main things come out in these verses, namely, the nature of justification and then in the light of that, what is the correct understanding of God's law. These are connected and critical issues, thus we must be vigilant in guarding these truths. Firstly, we must not confuse or mix together the basis of justification with what flows from justification. That is, we must not join together that which makes us acceptable in God's sight with how God expects His redeemed children to live. And secondly, as we seek to protect the pure doctrine of justification by faith, we must not do so in a way that destroys the relevance of the law in the life of the redeemed person.
