Paul at long last turns his attention to the glorious doctrine of justification by grace through faith, but only after showing that every person in the world is helplessly and hopelessly lost. Paul shows that the Bible has one consistent message about redemption and thus we are confronted again with the great principle of continuity between the testaments. He also says that no matter how close or far someone is from the visible covenant of God, all are equally disqualified due to sin and the only way this is removed, is by believing in Christ. He then explains that the only way the stain and offense of sin can be dealt with by a just God, is by wrath. It is not justice to merely forgive sin, therefore all sin has or will receive the full wrath of God. Those who believe in Christ have the wrath against their sin poured out upon Christ and those who do not believe in Christ will endure the wrath of God upon themselves for all eternity--every sin will receive God's wrath.
