In this passage, we need to see that Daniel was studying the scriptures. He was a man who spent time in the scriptures. What he knew about them is that the word of God is true. The purpose of prayer is to get ourselves aligned with the will of God. When we confess our sins we agree with God that what we did was wrong. When we look around at the world, do we feel that those people are worst off than us? God commands that we humble ourselves. If our prayer is an attempt to manipulate God, then we are out of touch with what He is doing. We need to plead with God and watch Him do what He wills.
