As we come to chapter 2, the scene does not change. Paul goes into more detail stressing the importance of unity and oneness among believers. In the opening verses he discusses the reasons for unity. Then he exhorts us as to how we are to function, as well as giving some instruction about how not to function in carrying out that plan. In our next study we will consider the illustration Paul uses of Jesus Christ as our great example of humility. We will see that the greatest obstacle to the functioning of believers as a harmonious whole is arrogance and pride. On the other hand, at the heart of unity and oneness is humility. When I function with humility before God, then I will function in unity and oneness with fellow believers.
