Satan has known of God's intention for His kingdom on the earth. Genesis 11 records Satan's first attempt to establish his counterfeit kingdom by uniting the world under one government with one religion. God intervened during the construction of the tower of Babel to disrupt his plans by confounding the language of the people.
Even so, he has relentlessly continued to work towards its establishment down to this day. The bible reveals that to some divinely measured extent, he will be allowed to do so. Since God's kingdom will center in Israel, and involve the salvation of the Jewish people, Satan attempts to thwart that plan by trying to annihilate them. The Jewish people are a privileged race, but are facing double trouble. They face God's wrath because of their unbelief in Jesus as their Messiah and they face Satan's wrath because they are the chosen nation of God in a covenant relationship.
Some of the details of the outworking of this divine plan have been revealed to us in the Scriptures. All the events going on in the world today serve to move us along the divine timeline of earth's history. Learning of some of this worldwide activity and the prophetic details we have been given serves to keep us focused on those matters that God has said are eternally significant for his people. There is much going on in our world that can distract and/or discourage us if we become fixed on our circumstances. A study of what is to come is encouraging, stimulating us to holy living and to waiting with patience, knowing all God has said will be done.
