During the coming tribulation the world's empires and worship system will focus all attention on the coming world ruler as their god in the flesh. This man is commonly referred to as the anti-Christ. The first half of the seven year tribulation he shares his power with leaders of other current empires, but the last half of the period he assumes full and autonomous rule over all the earthly empires.
Worship and rule go together in Satan's kingdom as he counterfeits the plan of God. The anti-Christ is “the devil's man” and to worship him is to worship Satan which has been his goal since he first rebelled. This man will be demonically empowered with supernatural abilities that reinforce his claim to be god. He will speak with great arrogance and opposition to the true God and the truth of God. He will hate God and everybody, and everything, associated with God.
As a result there will be tremendous persecution of those who have gotten saved during the tribulation and worship the true God. Nevertheless, those who are saved will endure and be faithful as they accept what God has for them. Many, if not most, will be martyred for their testimony of Jesus the true Christ.
