Christ is here described as “the Lamb” recalling that He was the sacrifice for sin. He continues to be rejected by all who refuse to repent of their sin thus confirming the judgment He will pronounce upon them. In this part of the revelation given to John He is seen where He will reign – on literal, earthly Mount Zion. Here God’s promises to the believing remnant of Israel will ultimately be fulfilled.
One hundred and forty-four thousand Jewish men, twelve thousand from each of the twelve tribes, are seen with Christ. These also have a mark on their forehead identifying them with the true Christ. This mark will preserve them as they come under divine protection during the last half of the Tribulation period.
Coming from heaven there will be a strong, powerful, beautiful sound as a “new song” is being sang by the martyrs in heaven. This song will only be learned and sang by the 144,000. The presence of this group of men with Christ testifies to God’s faithfulness in preserving the distinctions of the twelve tribes of Israel. These men will manifest the character of Christ and remain steadfast in their total commitment to Him.
