We continue in this series entitled the “Fruit of the Spirit.” All of the fruits of the Spirit reflect the character and nature of our God. God, by nature, is gentle towards His people. True gentleness (or meekness) comes from above (outside of ourselves) and then into our hearts by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is, therefore, a work of God in our hearts from beginning to end. The Fruit of the Spirit, “meekness,” is not weakness or spinelessness. “Meekness” is the very opposite of those “works of the flesh” that Paul describes in verse 20 (hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage). Rather, if believers are going to walk by the Spirit, we must keep in step with the Spirit by walking in meekness.
