We continue in this series entitled the “Fruit of the Spirit.” All of the fruits of the Spirit reflect the character and nature of our God. Biblical “self-control” comes from outside of self. It comes from God through faith in Jesus Christ. In the Gospel, Christians come to know true freedom from the evil passions and desire of the old, sinful nature. God, by His grace and Spirit, gives us the power to rule over our desires rather than sinful desires ruling over us. Biblical “self-control” is NOT self-dependence or self-will; but rather, it is the God-given power to say NO to the vices described in Galatians 5.19-21.
