In this session our subject is the question: What draws people to Calvinism. Calvinism is growing and what is it that draws people into it? We will look first at what it is negatively. It is not because the TULIP is appealing. It is not because it is logical. When one seeks to maintain the TULIP the message of Calvinism moves outside the realm of logic. Most church goers do not usually think far enough to see the lack of logic. Then last, it is not because it is a movement of high integrity. These are not what draws people.
What does draw people? The Calvinists I am familiar with stress expositional preaching, which is a positive point. They have strong convictions and stand for what they believe; teach the fear of God and stress holy living. They teach the five solas; which means Scripture alone, Christ alone, grace alone, faith alone, the glory of God alone. They come across as the elite in Christianity and today they have grown to become popular and that is a drawing point. And last, what has become a drawing point for Calvinism is the downfall of evangelicalism in such things as the seeker friendly movement and others.
