I. Brought near by the blood of Christ From a national standpoint, Gentiles were once far off from God, but have been brought near by the cross. From a personal standpoint, every person is born dead in sin and lost and far from God. Only through the blood of Christ is anyone brought near to God.
II. Christ made both groups (Jew and Gentile) into one God established the dividing wall by Law. Jews were to have no dealings with Gentiles. Gentiles were unclean. But once Christ came and died on the cross and rose again, the dividing wall was destroyed. It still existed strong in the minds of many Jews. This was a difficult thing to give up for them. Peter's whoopsie in Gal. 2 is a good example. But overall the church that Christ was building was a gathering of Jews and Gentiles together.
Christ is simultaneously the Great Uniter and the Great Divider. No one has caused more division in history than Christ. But it is also true that no one has brought more peace and unity than Christ. Behold the miracle: two groups who hated each other (Jew and Gentile), worshipping Christ together in the same church, exchanging the holy kiss with one another, loving each other. Only Christ could pull that off.
